Loch Garry and Knoydart

Knoydart is referred to as “Britain’s last wilderness”. It is only accessible by boat, or by a 16-mile (26 km) walk through rough country, and the seven miles (11 km) of tarred road are not connected to the UK road system. Sandwiched between Loch Nevis and Kinlochourn. This is an unspoilt area of majestic mountains and glens.

Starting from Loch Garry the road wends it way past Loch Quoich through forested areas to Kinlochhourn, where the walk begins. Looking down Glen Garry your eyes trace the outline of the loch (in the shape of Scotland) to the mistical hills beyond as they cast a magical spell over you, beckoning you to new adventures.

Moidart is part of the remote and isolated area of Scotland, west of Fort William, known as the Rough Bounds. Moidart itself is almost surrounded by bodies of water. Loch Shiel cuts off the eastern boundary of the district and continues along part of the southern edge; the remainder of the southern edge is cut off by Loch Moidart; the north is cut off by Loch Morar and Loch Ailort.
