Suilven

One of the most recognised mountains in Assynt landscape is Suilven.  It is a favourite mountain for artists to paint and I am no exception. The distinct profile of a triple-peaked summit ridge is captured in these Suilven paintings. Although not attracting the label of a Munro, its a prominent feature of the area.

The most westerly of the Assynt hills, Suilven has been a beacon to sailors and fisherman for centuries. It is formed of Torridonian sandstone, but looks grey from many angles. Lying in a remote area in the west of Sutherland, it rises almost vertically from a wilderness landscape of moorland, bogs and lochans known as Inverpolly National Nature Reserve.
