Papers, Paints and Inks
My paintings and prints are produced on a range of different papers from which I make a selection dependent upon the subject material and proposed nature and character of the finished work.
For my alkyd oil and acrylic paintings I might use any one of three different materials; Arches Oil Painting Paper 300gsm, Clairfontaine Oil Painting Paper 240gsm, and Hahnemuhle Oil and Acrylic Painting Paper 230gsm.
Arches Oil is a French made deckeled edge paper specially formulated for oil painting that features a powerful and efficient oil barrier that absorbs water, solvents and binders evenly while allowing the paint and pigment to remain on the surface.
Clairefontaine Oil Paper is acid free and specially designed to give excellent adhesion to oil colours and solvents; it is a fantastic alternative to heavy canvas boards. Hahnemuhle Oil and Acrylic Painting Paper is a special paper with a linen finish; the colours do not bleed but retain their high luminosity and there is no halo effect. Hahnemühle Traditional Fine Art papers are characterised by supreme quality, they are resistant to ageing, and are simply beautiful.
Watercolour paintings are usually on Saunders Waterford High White Rough Texture, a 300gsm media produced by St. Cuthbert’s Mill. It is well suited to my extensive use of washes and the paint’s pigments appear more vivid, and with more sparkle, giving the whole painting a fresher look. A whiter sheet also gives the finished paintings a more contemporary appearance.
St Cuthbert’s Mill also supply the media upon which I produce my limited edition prints – a 225gsm Somerset Enhanced Fine Art Inkjet Paper with a velvet finish. This paper was created to give artists and photographers an authentic fine art inkjet paper, capable of producing impressive images. It is a stunning matte paper, with an invisible inkjet coating, whose texture lifts images, giving them a beautifully elegant fine art feel.
I use artist quality paints to create my art works; currently these are Daler Rowney Artist quality watercolour paints, Windsor and Newton Quick Drying Alkyd Oils and Daler Rowney System 3 acrylics.
Prints are produced on the very latest Epson Large Format Printers using Ultrachrome HDR lightfast pigment based inks. These printers take inkjet (giclee) technology to an entirely new level with higher colour accuracy, greater subtlety and smoother gradations.
Presentation
All my paintings are signed and supplied in a soft white bevelled mount. The rim of the image aperture is embellished with a ‘single ‘V’ groove’ cut into the mount. My limited edition prints are supplied rolled in a tube, after I have signed and numbered them.
Once mounted, paintings are then cellophane wrapped and packed into a strong black archival quality presentation gift box. They are also accompanied by a signed embossed Certificate of Authenticity.
Presented in this way our finished product is a perfect gift and provides the recipient the option of framing the painting in a moulding of their choice.
In the case of our Landscape Paintings, the finished and mounted product is designed to fit into an industry standard A2 frame available from one of many on-line and high street retailers.
I occasionally may have special paintings or prints that suit a different size mount (e.g.500mm x 400mm), and these again will be packaged in the same way. These are detailed on the individual product page.
About the Frames
From time to time I may offer a limited selection of mouldings and applicable only to certain ‘sale’ items. Availability will be shown on the product pages. If you have a special requirement, or are in any doubt about in which moulding a particular painting is available, then please contact me.
They are produced using only the very best quality materials to an exceptionally high standard by ‘Fine Art Trade Guild’ craftsmen.
In the framing process the artwork is placed behind a soft white bevelled mount. This procedure has many benefits; the artwork will remain perfectly flat, it determines and maintains the artwork’s precise position within the frame, it allows the media to ‘breathe’ when subjected to variations in temperature and humidity, and finally it ensures that the surface of the artwork does not come into contact with the glazing.
To reduce the overall frame weight yet maintain strength, all my frames are fitted with Art Screen Clear acrylic glazing, ensuring that they are strong, safe and lightweight.
I reserve the right to change the specification of my mouldings from time to time and from batch to batch. Although the mouldings will change, I shall ensure continuity in the general appearance of my product range.
I do guarantee that any customer who orders several frames in a single order will be supplied with frames made from the same batch of moulding. However, unfortunately, I cannot guarantee that any customer who places a return order for frames some time later will receive mouldings from the same batch.
Mouldings that are for order only are specially made for your order and the delivery time will be extended by approx 10 working days.
