I was born in the village of Shap and educated in nearby Penrith, in the very shadow of the high fells of the English Lake District. I left home shortly after I started work, but maintained connections with my family and friends in the area and frequently returned home for short visits at weekends and during holidays. I returned to Cumbria in 1983, but have recently settled in The Highlands of Scotland in Invermoriston, close to Loch Ness.
I started to take an interest in mountains, and to appreciate their character and moods, nearly 30 years ago when I was introduced to walking in Snowdonia by a friend. Like so many before me, it wasn’t long before I was ‘hooked’, and soon most of my spare time was taken up walking and exploring the high mountains of Snowdonia and The Lake District.
Inevitably I became interested in mountains further afield, to The Scottish Highlands, The European Alps and finally to the major Himalayan peaks of Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet and Sikkim where I became a very frequent visitor.
I am a self taught artist, and initially it was my intention to express my love of wild places in the form of Fine Art Watercolour Paintings. But having been introduced to painting in Alkyd Oils I have since extended my portfolio to include a range of original framed fine art oil paintings.
It is my sincere wish that even in this modest gallery of paintings, I have been able to share with my visitors some of the many wonderful and memorable moments that I have had the good fortune to experience amidst some of the most beautiful and evocative mountain scenery to be found anywhere in the world.
