Derwentwater Paintings

Welcome to my gallery of Derwentwater Paintings, I have visited the area frequently and enjoyed walking the mountains and valleys surrounding it. I also love the walk round the lake, to Grange and back, so many view points to see and sketch. Walking through the Great Wood and out on to the open moorland looking across the lake to the familiar shapes of Grisedale Pike and Causey Pike, then on to Catbells following the ridge along towards Borrowdale, its good to take the time to drink in the beauty. Known also as “Keswick’s Lake”, Derwentwater is fed by the River Derwent in the high fells at the head of Borrowdale, and has featured in many artistic interpretations and literary works. The lake is very much a landscape of moods, varying from the dramatic waves splashing against Friar’s Crag, to the glass like look of still days in the many sheltered bays.

My paintings here include Catbells, Maiden Moor and towards the Borrowdale area. Skiddaw dominates the Keswick Skyline from the lake and I have just completed a watercolour painting of winter light on the mountain from Ashness Bridge. NEW Landscape Artwork just added - an oil of Skiddaw from the lower slopes of the ridge leading to Catbells' summit looking across Derwentwater as early autumn snows drift along the summits, the sky reflects the warmth of morning light.
