I just love painting mountains and these are all created from my previous walking experiences, I have been and seen, walked and climbed many of the Scottish Highlands mountain and now try to share that love of the Great Outdoors in the paintings. Simply An Teallach painted in watercolours is born from this love. An Teallach from the Gaelic means the Forge, and I have seen this face turn red in the early dawn light of an autumn day.
Following on from my last watercolour painting, I used the same techniques on Simply An Teallach. Limited Palette this time of Permanent Rose, Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna. I sketched the outline of the ridges and turned the board upside down to paint the sky (love the granulation in there), painted the ridge shadows on the snow and rubbed out all the lines, then used the burnt sienna with various amounts of ultramarine to paint the rocks.
